Our Story

Welcome to the Milltop! Originally a gristmill, our building was built in the 1880s. It first became a bar in the 1950s. The building was expanded in the 1970s and became known as Milltop Tavern and Listening Room. We were well known for our live music, the unique treehouse feel, and wonderful location on St. George Street.

In 2016, this building required a complete renovation.  Because of the historic site, the city of Saint Augustine performed an archaeological dig, and unearthed interesting items like pottery shards, a well, and even a two foot diameter gopher tortoise shell! We have endeavored to recreate the look and feel of the original bar that locals and tourists alike have grown to love.

After Hurricanes Matthew and Irma these past two years, we are happy to be back and doing what we love: live music in an outdoorsy setting, with a full bar, and delicious food offerings from our remodeled kitchen. We salvaged our Pecky Cypress paneling and reused it on the stage and bar. Thank you for visiting, we hope you have a wonderful time and come back to see us at the TOP again soon!
